Distribution of hygiene kits saves lifes
In summer 2016, ASB was once again distributing hygiene kits to families in the refugee camp of Berseve in Northern Iraq. The distribution is part of a larger project, aiming to prevent the spread of diseases.
On Sunday, 31 July 2016, and Monday, 1 August 2016, ASB, in coordination with our implementing partner Harikar and with the generous support of the German Federal Foreign Office, distributed 2,500 hygiene kits to all families living in the Bersive 1 IDP camp in northern Iraq.
Each kit contained toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, antiseptic disinfectant, clothes and dish washing detergent, toilet paper, sanitary items and water storage containers.
These items are critical to help the families maintain safe hygiene practices and prevent the spread of diseases which are especially prevalent during the current extremely hot summer months in Iraq.
Diseases such as cholera and diarrhea can spread very quickly in the close confines of a camp and can have devastating consequences on the already immuno-compromised families there.
This distribution was part of the ongoing health and hygiene promotion project ASB has been running in this camp for nearly two years, which includes the construction and operation of a primary health care facility as well as extensive school and community activities to promote healthy hygiene practices and prevent disease in the camp.
