Back to school

The project allows children and teachers to return to face-to-face classes by building a bomb shelter in a school in the village of Korolivka, Bucha district, Kyiv region, thus significantly shortening the distance to the nearest shelter. In addition, all school staff and pupils will be able to take part in safety and first aid training courses. Besides, teaching quality will be improved by providing necessary teaching material.

Since the beginning of the war, the children of the Korolivka village in the Bucha district (Kyiv region) have no longer been able to attend school on site. The community doesn't have its own air-raid shelter, so people had to use the shelter of a community seven kilometres away in case of danger. Under these conditions, face-to-face lessons in the village were not possible.

ASB is now building an air raid shelter on the grounds of the school in Korolivka. This will enable preschoolers, pupils and teachers to return to school safely.

To further ensure the safety of students and teachers, ASB Ukraine, in cooperation with its partner SSU, provides safety and first aid training to all students and staff.

ASB also supports everyday school life by financing necessary school materials.

How ASB helps in Ukraine

Construction of an air-raid shelter for a school in the municipality of Korolivka (Kyiv region)

1gelb.png

At the request of the local authority for health, education and culture, ASB's Ukrainian country office is building a bomb shelter for a school in the municipality of Korolivka (Kyiv region).

The construction of the school will enable 200 pupils and preschoolers to safely attend face-to-face classes again. On-site schooling for the children was switched to online formats after the start of the war because the village of Korolivka itself does not have a bomb shelter and the children and staff would have had to seek shelter in a village seven kilometres away in the event of an alarm. Under these circumstances, face-to-face lessons were not possible.

The construction of the bunker on the school grounds is intended to guarantee the best possible protection for all children and teaching staff and to encourage parents to send their children to face-to-face lessons again.

Safety and first aid training for all pupils and teachers

In addition to the construction of the shelter, the aim is also to promote the skills of pupils and teachers in dealing with the war situation.

To this end, ASB and its local partner SSU are offering a total of 20 training sessions in the areas of first aid and psychosocial support. The aim is to teach concepts on how to ensure one's own safety.

Provision of school materials

ASB also supports the lessons of the pupils by providing the necessary equipment and school materials such as magnetic boards, projectors and printers.
